POTASSIUM FELDSPAR
 
INDUCTION

Characterized by a low melting temperature of 1150±20ºC, a lengthy melting phase, and high viscosity in the molten state, potassium feldspar is extensively employed in the production of ceramics, glaze, glass, electrical porcelain, abrasives, and potassium fertilizers.

General industrial specifications:
1.
The level of potassium oxide (K2O) should be above 9%, the combined level of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide (MgO+CaO) should be under 2%, and the level of sodium oxide (Na2O) should be less than 3%.
2.
For typical ceramics and electrical porcelain, the aluminum oxide (Al2O3) content should be greater than or about 13%.
3.
Glass components should have an aluminum oxide (Al2O3) content exceeding 18% and a silicon dioxide (SiO2) content below 70%.
1.
Abrasive materials should have a potassium oxide (K2O) content above 10%, a silicon dioxide (SiO2) content above 60%, and an aluminum oxide (Al2O3) content above 18%.

APPLICATION

1. Ceramic body ingredients: feldspar can play the role of barren raw materials before burning, reduce the drying shrinkage and deformation of the body, improve drying performance and shorten drying time. During firing, it can be used as a flux to reduce the firing temperature, promote the melting of quartz and kaolin, and accelerate the formation of mullite by mutual diffusion and penetration in the liquid phase. The feldspar glass formed in the melting is filled between the mullite grains in the body, which makes the body dense and reduces the void, thus improving its mechanical strength and dielectric properties. In addition, the formation of feldspar glass can also improve the light transmission of the body. The amount of feldspar incorporated in ceramic body varies with different raw materials and different product requirements.

2. Glass flux: feldspar is one of the main components of glass mixture. Feldspar contains high Al2O3, low iron content, and is fusible than alumina, not only the melting temperature is low and the melting range is wide, mainly used to increase the alumina content in glass ingredients, reduce the melting temperature in glass production and increase the alkali content to reduce the amount of alkali. In addition, the process of feldspar melting into glass is relatively slow, and the crystallization capacity is small, which can prevent the crystallization of crystals during the formation of glass and destroy the product. Feldspar can also be used to regulate the viscosity of glass. Generally all kinds of glass mix with potassium feldspar or albite.

3. Ceramic glaze: Ceramic glaze is mainly composed of feldspar, quartz and clay raw materials, of which feldspar content can reach 10-35%. In the ceramic industry (billets and glazes) potassium feldspar is mainly used.

4. Enamel raw materials: mainly mixed with feldspar and other mineral raw materials. The inclusion of feldspar is usually 20-30%.

5. Agriculture: potassium feldspar can be used as a raw material for extracting potash fertilizer.
