Applications:
Refractory Industry
Sillimanite decomposed at high temperature to produce mullite and silica, accompanied by a certain volume expansion, so the product with sillimanite as the main raw material or the addition of sillimanite to other products, the use of its volume expansion effect can effectively offset the volume shrinkage of the product in the high temperature sintering process, limit the local stress, prevent and passivate the generation of cracks. The thermal shock resistance of the product is improved, the mechanical peeling is reduced, the performance of the product is improved, and the service life of the product is extended.
2. Ceramic Industry
The volume expansion of sillimanite due to the behavior of mullitization makes it possible to use sillimanite as an additive, adding it to ceramics or other materials, and eventually achieving the purpose of phase change toughening these materials. Honeycomb ceramics, mullite porcelain and ceramic hangboards made from sillimanite have been widely used in industry.
3. Welding Material
Sillimanite concentrate contains Al2O3 and SiO2, crystal water is very little, while the content of impurities such as S, P is very low, and the small thermal expansion coefficient of sillimanite is conducive to improving the desagging of welding rods and fluxes, so it is feasible to use sillimanite as the raw material of welding materials.
